Description:

The Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) sponsored a three-day conference – September 28-30 – on Islam and Muslims in Chicago.  OIC Secretary-General Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu made the keynote speech on the first night.  The stated objective of the conference was to “discuss the issues of Muslims living in the US, seeking solutions to their problems, discussing possible contributions of the OIC to Muslims in the US, and creating ties between the OIC and Muslims and Islamic organizations in the US.” (1)

Ahmed Rehab, Executive Director of CAIR-Chicago moderated the first panel on September 29 entitled “The Role of the OIC & The Scope for its Relations with American Muslims.”   That night there was an “invitation only” dinner on the agenda. (2)

The OIC announced that “topics of discussions included the role of OIC and the scope for its relations with American Muslims, American foreign policy and the Muslim World, Islam in the American context and discussions surrounding the future of the Muslim community in the United States.” (3)
