In October 2009 six Detroit area Muslims were arrested<\/a> by the FBI on suspicion of a variety of offenses including illegal possession of firearms.\u00a0 Imam Ameen Abdullah Luqman of Masjid (Mosque)<\/em> Al-Haqq resisted arrest, fatally shooting a police dog before being fatally shot himself by officers.\u00a0 CAIR-Michigan and their Executive Director Dawud Walid questioned<\/a> the FBI’s version of events immediately after the shooting and claimed that the FBI had sent “no less than three agent-provocateurs” to the mosque in the preceding years.<\/p>\n

On April 7, 2010 ABC News published a story entitled “Photos Raise Questions About Shooting of Cuffed Muslim Leader”<\/a>.\u00a0 CAIR’s involvement was referenced in the article repeatedly:<\/p>\n

Dawud Walid, executive director of the Council of American-Islamic Relations in Detroit, asked, “How could he be so sure?”<\/p>\n

Walid said that despite Luqman’s rhetoric, he was not dangerous. The Imam struggled to pay rent and heat at his mosque in Dearborn, and was evicted from a previous mosque for not paying rent. Walid says the police actions at the Detroit warehouse that day amounted to excessive force, borne out by the condition of Luqman’s body when the medical examiner arrived.<\/p>\n

After viewing all the autopsy photos with the Wayne County Medical Examiner, Lena Masri, an attorney for CAIR Michigan, said she believes Luqman’s body may have been moved from the original location where he was killed before the medical examiner arrived.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

ABC News failed to disclose that their reporter, co-author of the article Sharaf Mowjood, is the former Government Relations Coordinator<\/a> for CAIR-Los Angeles<\/a>.<\/p>\n
